Ukiyo-e Styled Basemap Tileset

This web map tileset, which I developed using Mapbox, is inspired by the Japanese ukiyo-e works of Katsushika Hokusai. Ukiyo-e is often translated as “picture of the floating world,” referring to the pleasures of life and the transitory nature of humanity and the material world. The color palette draws from Prussian blue, indigo, yellow, green, and reddish-brown. I used Adobe Illustrator to recreate Hokusai's depictions of snowcapped Mt. Fuji, flowing water, and soft trees throughout the map, and Bootstrap to develop the webpage that explains the tileset in greater detail. I developed the tileset and webpage as part of my Graphic Design in Cartography course at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
